Day 37

Day 37: Real Time
Day One: 21 Day Complaint Free Journey

I spent a lot of yesterday trying to wipe the backsplash off from the night before. Which means I did a lot more moaning about it, of course. Day One redeux.

I just couldn’t seem to help myself. Why is that, though?

In asking myself that question, I find that I have to try to tap into the emotions that are generated as I’m relating a difficult situation to others who have nothing to do with what happened or why. That’s tough, but also enlightening.

It makes me feel RIGHT. And when my friends and family jump on that train with me, I feel VINDICATED. My outrage rises up and demands to be recognized, demands to be affirmed.

Not a pretty sight. And perhaps not one of my better qualities.

  1. Do you try to step into the other people's shoes who upset you and lead you to complain to try to see from their point of view? Then do you see where the two of you have common ground to try to build toward the correct resolution from this common ground?

Also, there are times in life when people have no common ground to build upon. As a business woman do you know what jobs to walk away from and what jobs are worth doing? Sometimes we can not walk away from a job where there is no common ground for economic reasons. If this is the case, can you find the solution the client needs, while keeping as much of your dignity and reputation intact as possible?

From here it sounds like you and your client have polar opposite views on key ideas or that client hired you to have someone to disagree with---and probably blame in the end. In other words, what are the roots to this situation that compels you to complain.

:-) I understand you have much greater experience than I do at resolving problems, but thought I would toss my 2 cents worth in, just in case you need to go back to the basics. Often that is what sports teams must do when things go wrong. Back to the basics, the fundamentals, or whatever title you give to it. Think you might need to go back to the basics of business. Best of luck to you.
